Caption: Literacy student Salifu Manasseh attends class and learns to read and write in his language of Mampruli. The literacy class being taught by Ataje Elijah Wekem (right, standing) who comes from this village and whose mother tongue is Mampruli. Mampruli is in the Northern Region of Ghana. Atage is a literacy teacher with Ghana Institute of Linguistics, Literacy and Bible Translation’s (GILLBT). As an interesting side note, the markings on his face are given him when an infant at just three days of age. These marks signify where he is from and at times are made in which to put medicine into when sick.
